OPPO Realme 1 – Faster than the Rest

OPPO has entered the budget and mid-range markets with sensible devices under the brand name Realme. Yeah, we know what the brand’s name sounds similar to but it’s not a big deal. It is to be appreciated that they have launched a really fast smartphone at a reasonable price. It is almost surprising as OPPO tends to over-price their smartphones often.

Software-wise, this phone ships with the heavily-themed Android skin by Oppo. It runs on Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box with ColorOS 5.0 skip on top. Although the user-interface is smooth and snappy it does make you feel tight with elemental crowding. It does give you an iOS look-alike operating system with an Android base. It sure is not the best skin for bringing out the best possible performance out of a powerful chipset that the device carries.

Enough with the OS, let’s move on to its battery and here’s where the ColorOS holds its ground. It carries a 3410mAh battery which might sound smaller but doesn’t let you down. It may have something to do with the OS optimization that leads to an impressive battery performance. This device takes anywhere from 2.5hours to almost 3hours to charge fully from 0% battery. The battery is another asset of Realme 1 which will last you for a full day of usage.

On the camera front, we just have a single camera setup at the back. It might sound a little bit wacky but trust me the AI capabilities almost make up for the non-existence of a secondary camera. It clicks tab bit better portraits compared to devices like Honor 9 Lite thanks to the AI edge-detection. Actually, we can take the Pixel2 as an example for the Single camera being better than a dual camera setup. It is equipped with a 13MP rear camera alongside an LED flash and an 8MP camera at the front. The selfie camera can also click portrait selfies, again thanks to the AI algorithm the chipset comes with.

Regarding the performance, we have the much anticipated MediaTek Helio P60 at the core. It is made using 12nm manufacturing process just like the premium chipsets we see in the market. It also is a chipset that comes with AI compatibility. This CPU is coupled Malo-G72 MP3 graphics processor which is above average at best. Although gaming is better on the Redmi Note 5 Pro which has an Adreno GPU the Helio P60 wins clearly against SD636 when pitted against each other. As a matter of fact, the Helio P60 scored a whopping 138,326 points in AnTuTu compared to 105,369 points of the SD636 chipset.

The Realme 1 sports a 6.0 Inches FullHD+ LCD display with a resolution of 2160×1080 pixels. It features a pixel density of about 402 PPI and has an 18:9 aspect ratio. The color reproduction is quite vibrant, but the disappointment comes at viewing angles. It is a rather reflective display and has no third-party protection on top.

Build quality is also an impressive angle we could experience from this device. There were no major compromises made regarding the build except for replacing the fingerprint sensor with face unlocking. As it achieved through software and machine learning it’s not really the most secure way to go.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 – A Good Performance

Redmi note 5 is the latest offering from Xiaomi in the Note series alongside the Redmi Note 5 Pro with this one being budget friendly. Xiaomi as we always knew did a great job for those people with a budget at hand. It comes with a 5.99-inches Full high-definition plus displays with 18:9 ratio 2.5D corning gorilla glass protection. The screen resolution is 2160×1080 pixels with pixel density being 403PPI.

This display is curved at corners which adds up to the aesthetics of the device. We’ll be getting Android 7.1.2 Nougat out of the box with MIUI skin on top of it. I am sure we’ll be getting updates regularly, may not be android updates but surely MIUI versions. Build quality on this one seems fantastic with gorilla glass and the premium aluminum chassis holding up the durability.

Getting to the performance, we get the same old but not so shabby Qualcomm Snapdragon625 chip. Which is accompanied by Adreno506 graphics processor digging up your games. This beast is one of the few good phones in this budget with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage. Storage is expandable up to 128Gb via using a micro-SD card. It sports a 12MP primary camera with 5P lens and f/2.2 aperture and also a front-facing 5MP camera with AI beautification. All of these specifications are help up by a 4000mAh battery which is non-removable.

Micromax Evok Dual Note

Here comes the competition killer from Micromax; the Evok Dual Note is a budget phone that’s featuring a dual-camera setup at the back. It is one of the first phones and could be called the dual camera mobile. The camera is good, unlike other Micromax’s smartphones. It is potentially the best amongst all right now.

The Evok Dual note is featuring a full high-definition 1080p display with 401 PPI pixel density. The bezels are thin making it look very pretty while usage. The 1080×1920 pixels resolution is an eye-candy to watch movies and play games. Touch’s smooth and responsive without any hassle. It runs on Android 7.0 Nougat right out of the box on first boot. It comes with cartoonish UI with a lot of uninstallable bloatware with it.

For performance, it boasts the MediaTek MT6750T octa-core chipset at the core. It is a Cortex-A53 chip running at 1.5GHz. This CPU coupled with the 3GB RAM provides butter smooth performance with no lag whatsoever. The drawback though is obviously the Mali-T860MP2 graphics chip which is not as good as Adreno GPUs. We get a storage of 32GB and sadly, the expandable storage is also only up to 32GB via an SD card.

Camera wise, we get a decent dual camera setup at the back featuring a 13MP AF+5MP no AF cameras. Although is not as good as the one on Honor 6X or Coolpad Cool 1 it is still one of the best with dual camera. There’s a dual-tone LED flash in between the two cameras. We also get a 5MP secondary camera which is just average in performance. Juicing it all up, it’s got a lithium-polymer battery with 3000mAh battery capacity.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4

Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 4 is undoubtedly the best all-rounder here. It is one of the most premium looking and premium-built phone in this price range. It is the one all-rounder mobile you should be getting but it has an average camera though.

The Redmi Note 4 comes with a brilliant 5.5 Inch full HD IPS panel. It has a pixel density of 401 pixels per inch and screen resolution is 1080×1920 pixels. The display is decently bright in the daylight. It is just about perfect gaming without any framebuffer so far. Redmi note 4 comes with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow with the MIUI8 skin on top. Also, you can upgrade to Android 7.0 Nougat with MIUI9 using system update.

Under the hood, we have the Snapdragon625 chipset. That is an octa-core 64-bit chipset that runs at a clock speed of 2.0Ghz. It is said to be one of the most battery efficient CPUs from Qualcomm to date. Although being efficient, it does not let you down in terms of performance. Coupled with a 2/3/4 GB RAM it provides sweet and smooth performance. It has Adreno 506 graphics processor that lets you play games in FHD without any problem.

Camera wise, this beast features a 13-megapixel camera as a primary which is honestly not that great. It’s got features like f/2.0 aperture, HDR, phase detection autofocus, and dual-tone dual-LED flash. There is also a 5-megapixels front-facing camera which again has an aperture of f/2.0. Both the cameras can record videos up to 1080p at 30 fps. It sports a massive 4100mAh lithium-polymer which is incomparable at this price.

Micromax Canvas Infinity

Micromax has recently launched the revolution of budget smartphones. The Canvas Infinity is the bezel-less smartphone. This smartphone is the best-looking one on our list and is definitely worth your attention. This device from Micromax has an aspect ratio of 18:9 which is the current trend for mobiles. The Infinity has a big 5.7 inches IPS LCD display with a screen to body ratio of 77.2%. That’s an 18:9 HD+ display meaning it has a resolution of 1440×720 pixels and a pixel density of 279 pixels per inch.

It is covered with a 2.5D curved glass which is icing on the cake and makes it look pretty. It comes with Android 7.1.2 Nougat right out of the box and can be upgraded to Android 8.0 Oreo in the coming few months.

Performace wise, this is where the Canvas Infinity gets cranky. It comes with the Snapdragon 425 chipset which is a quad-core CPU running at 1.4GHz. This CPU is coupled with a 3GB RAM and Adreno 308 which get the job done with medium usage. The performance is not shit but it is very low for heavy users like me. If you are a light/ medium user then this phone won’t be disappointing. For storage, we get 32GB internal which is expandable up to 128GB using an SD card via dedicated SD slot.

Camera wise, we get a surprisingly good 13-Megapixel camera at the back with LED below it and followed by a fingerprint sensor. It comes with an aperture of f/2.0 which helps to capture good images in low-light. Although, it is the primary camera the 16-Megapixels front-facing camera is the one gaining our attention. It takes really good selfies in all conditions and overall is better than Vivo at this price. There is a 2980mAh lithium-ion battery at the back.

  • Infinite display at budget price.

Coolpad Cool 1

Coolpad is a well-known smartphone brand in India which got attention with its Note 3. It is incomparably faster than all of the other smartphones in this price range. Additionally, it also has a dual camera setup at the back which takes the best images at this price. Overall it is a very good smartphone that is definitely worth your attention. It supports dual SIM with dual 4G support and VoLTE on top for JIO users out there.

This device features a 5.5-inches full high-definition IPS display. It comes with a screen resolution of 1080×1920 pixels and a pixel density of 403 pixels per inch. The display is very pretty and media is enjoyable on it. It gets bright enough so that you can use it outside. Unfortunately, there is no protection on the display which is not suited for rough users. Cool 1 comes with Android 6.0 Marshmallow with EUI 5.6 skin on top of it. There is not much bloatware in this UI but it still does not feel good as stock android.

At the core, we have got the Snapdragon 652 chipset from Qualcomm. This is a beast level chipset providing awesome performance at this price range. The SD652 is an octa-core CPU with 4 cores running at 1.8GHz and the other 4 cores at 1.4Ghz clock speed. The phone is so fast that it heats up the device which is again a drawback of this mobile. Coupled with the Adreno 510 GPU gaming is an awe. For storage, we get 3GB of RAM and 32gigs on onboard storage which is not expandable.

Camera wise, this monster sports a 13+13-megapixels dual camera setup at the back. There is a dual-tone dual-LED flash beside the dual camera and a fingerprint sensor right below it. This primary camera can shoot videos up to 4K at 30 frames per second. Additionally, there is an 8megapixels front facing camera which takes decent selfies with beautification feature. All of this is juiced up a big 4000mAh lithium-polymer battery.

Motorola Moto E4 Plus

Motorola’s new budget-friendly smartphone, the Moto E4 plus can be called the best with regards to its massive battery. Motorola is one of the most trusted brands in India that assures quality but comes with big prices. The devices are well built and last long in all conditions of usage. The Moto E4 plus is one of the good phones that this brand makes and it comes with 4G VoLTE support too.

For the display, the E4 plus rocks a 5.5 inches HD display. It has a screen resolution of 1280×720 pixels and a pixel density of 267 pixels per inch which is a major disappointment. This display is protected by the famous Corning Gorilla Glass 3. If you cannot tell the difference between an FHD and HD display then this phone is one of the mobiles for you. The most intuitive feature of Moto devices is the UI. It’s just pure stock android with 0 bloatware and is smooth as hell.

Under the hood, we got the Mediatek MT6737 1.3Ghz quad-core chipset which is again a letdown. In my opinion, at least Mediatek MT6750 should be there on the phone. That apart, the graphics processing is done by the Mali-T720 which provides decent gaming experience. For storage, the E4 Plus comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. Storage can be expanded up to 128GB via SD card using a dedicated slot. The fingerprint sensor is fast, responsive, and placed at the front giving the phone a good look.

Camera wise, this device boasts a 13-megapixels primary camera at the back. Now, this is where Motorola does not let us down at all. It comes with an aperture of f/2.0 and an LED flash right below the sensor. Also, there is a 5-megapixels f/2.2 secondary camera again with an LED flash. The front camera takes selfies which are surprisingly good and clear. The battery on this one is a massive 5000mAh Li-Ion battery which does not have a competitor yet.

Lenovo K6 Power

Lenovo is another most trusted Chinese smartphone brand in India. As you all know Lenovo is a trusted brand and the smartphones from this brand are worth the money. Lenovo is also the owner of Motorola brand which shows it’s a powerful brand. As a matter of fact, the Lenovo K6 Power is a powerful 4GB ram mobile.

The K6 power boasts a rather compact 5 inch IPS LCD display. That’s a full HD display with a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels and a pixel density of 441 pixels per inch. The display is very good and bright enough for outside usage. It is also very suitable for multimedia streaming and gaming of course. It comes loaded with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow with Vibe UI skin and can be upgraded to Android 7.0 Nougat via OTA. Also, it supports 4G VoLTE on both of the sims for the JIO users out there.

For performance, this device uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon430 chipset which is decent. It is an octa-core chipset clocked at 1.4Ghz speed. This CPU is coupled with Adreno 505 graphics processor which provides not so bad gaming experience. The main thing to notice though is the dual speakers at the back. They are Dolby Atmos enhanced and provides the best sound output making it the best sounding one on this list. In terms of storage, we get 3GB RAM and 32GB storage which is expandable up to 128GB via an SD card.

Camera wise, there’s is a decent enough camera setup at the back which does a good job. It is a 13Megapixel camera with phase detection autofocus and LED flash. The K6 Power also carries an 8Megapixel front facing camera which is just about average. Both the camera can record videos up to 1080p at 30 frames per second. The phone has a battery capacity of 4000mAh and the battery is made of lithium-polymer.

Panasonic Eluga Ray Max

Panasonic is one of the top favorite brands in the Indian market. The Panasonic Eluga Ray Max is a beast in itself with no others to compete with it. The build quality on this one is really good and the fingerprint sensor is located at the front giving it a premium look with a metal build. The bezels are thin with an LED flash supporting the secondary camera at the top.

The display on this beast is a 5.2 inches full high-definition panel. It is protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and also you get a screen protector in the box. This display has a resolution of 1080×1920 pixels and a pixel density of 424 pixels per inch. Ray Max runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow with close to the stock user interface and a few modifications from the brand. It comes with 4G VoLTE support.

The software on Panasonic Ray Max comes with an artificial intelligence assistant called ARBO. It is still in beta stage and needs some improvements but it is a good virtual assistant. You can also update it via software updates.

Popping the hood, we get the Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 chipset. That’s an octa-core chipset running at 1.4Ghz clock speed. It has a removable back where the 2-SIM slots and a dedicated SD card slot are located. For storage, we get 4GB RAM and 32GB of storage which can be expanded up to 128GB via an SD card. The CPU is coupled with the Adreno 505 GPU with which the gaming experience would be satisfactory.

Camera wise, there is a 16Megapixel shooter at the back along with an LED flash. This camera lacks good dynamic range but the photos still turn out to be good. It might be one of the best cameras you can get at this price range. Also, there is an 8Megapixel selfie shooter at the front again with an LED flash. The selfies turn out to be good even in low light, thanks to the front LED. The battery is a 3000mAh Li-ion with fast charging.

Yu Yunicorn

YU being the sub-brand of Micromax has a good impact on the best phones under 10000 market. YU’s phones are quite affordable and they do good with performance too. The display is a Full HD IPS LCD panel with a size of 5.5 inches. It has got a screen resolution of 1080×1980 pixels and also a pixel density of 401 pixels per inch. Good thing is, this is scratch-resistant glass display but it might not survive high drops.

Build quality on this one is quite impressive as it has an all metal back. It is quite sturdy and feels like a costly phone in hand. The fingerprint sensor is placed at the front which again is a plus point regarding looks. It is a big disappointment that this phone still runs on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop with Around YU user interface. You can upgrade it to Android 6.0 Marshmallow via OTA it still is outdated OS.

For performance, what we get is a major disappointment. Yunicorn, at its core, has the Mediatek MT6755 Helio P10 chipset. On top of that, this processor has been under-clocked to prevent over-heating which means bad gaming experience. It’s an octa-core CPU with 4-cores clocked at 1.8Ghz and the other 4-cores at 1.0Ghz. We also have the Mali-T860MP2 which is responsible for the graphics processing. In terms of storage, we get 4GB of RAM coupled with 32GB storage which is expandable up to 256GB via the Hybrid slot.

Camera wise, there is a 13Megapixel primary shooter at the back which is above average. It has an aperture of f/2.2, phase detection autofocus, and dual-tone Dual LED flash. At the front, we get a 5Megapixel secondary camera with an aperture of f/2.0. The selfies turn out to be decent with good detail and saturation. The battery is another feature of Yunicorn that makes it a splendid device. It has a big 4000mAh Li-Polymer battery which runs for long. It supports dual SIM with 4G VoLTE on Marshmallow upgrade.
