Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 – Best One at Present

Want to buy the Redmi Note Pro 5 like device with stock android, cheaper and can adjust on camera? Then Zenfone Max Pro M1 is your go to.  It is the most reasonable and worthy device from the house of Asus since past few years. Yes, it is also being loved by lots of smartphone fans. We think Asus is serious about this device as we’ve already got a bunch of software fixes and promised bi-monthly security patches.

This device ships with Android 8.1 Oreo operating system out of the box. It is a good selling point as the ZenUI is not so good to use on a daily basis. Although it is mostly stock Android there are a few tweaks baked-in by the brand which makes it a kind of a modded ROM. We’ve already seen many software fixes since the launch which hints a possible Android P upgrade in the near future.

Performance is an aspect where Zenfone Max Pro M1 holds its ground against the Note 5 Pro. In some cases, the Zenfone Max Pro M1 performs a tad better than the Note 5 pro except for the aggressive background check that the MIUI has. Going technical, we get a Snapdragon 636 processor alongside the Adreno 509 graphics processor just as the Note 5 Pro. In case of this device, we have 3 storage variants though; 3GB/ 32GB, 4GB/ 64Gb, and the highest variant being 6GB/ 64GB. It handles everything you throw at it without any problem and gaming is a delight in it thanks to Adreno 509.

There is a massive 5000mAh battery which is made of lithium polymer. I can’t overstate how good the battery backup of this device is and it’s definitely the best specification of the smartphone. We’ve got about 8 hours of screen time with continuous usage of PUBG alongside Discord. This is the best juice packed device which you can get at this budget.

The camera is where this mobile takes a big punch in the face. As it runs on an almost stock Android it has Snapdragon camera as the default one. It comes with a dual-camera primary setup at the back where we have a 13MP sensor with an aperture of F/2.2. It clearly shoes sign of clicking bad pictures in low-lit areas. There’s also a 5MP F/2.4 secondary sensor for capturing depth information for portraits. Also, we can see an 8MP front-facing camera with an aperture of F/2.2 and it does not take any decent selfies. Not the worst ones, but at this budget, the cameras are just about average.

On the front, we have a pretty 5.99 Inches FHD+ display with an aspect ratio of 18:9. The screen resolution is at 2160×1080 pixels with the pixel density being 402 PPI. It’s a responsive display with viewable brightness under sunlight. What’s not cool is that this display is not protected by any tough glass like Gorilla or a Dragontrail.

Display 5.99 Inch FHD+, 18:9 Aspect Ratio
Chipset 1.8Ghz Snapdragon 636, Adreno 509
Storage 4GB RAM, 64GB Storage
Primary Camera 13MP+5MP Dual Cameras, 1.12Microns
Secondary Camera 8MP Front-facing Camera, Selfie Flash
Operating System Android 8.1 Oreo
Battery 5000 mAh Li-Po Battery

Pros

  • Massive battery capacity.
  • Very good charging speed.
  • Pure Android experience.
  • Optimized and fast performance.
Cons

  • Average camera performance.
  • No protection for the display.

OPPO Realme 1 – Faster than the Rest

OPPO has entered the budget and mid-range markets with sensible devices under the brand name Realme. Yeah, we know what the brand’s name sounds similar to but it’s not a big deal. It is to be appreciated that they have launched a really fast smartphone at a reasonable price. It is almost surprising as OPPO tends to over-price their smartphones often.

Software-wise, this phone ships with the heavily-themed Android skin by Oppo. It runs on Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box with ColorOS 5.0 skip on top. Although the user-interface is smooth and snappy it does make you feel tight with elemental crowding. It does give you an iOS look-alike operating system with an Android base. It sure is not the best skin for bringing out the best possible performance out of a powerful chipset that the device carries.

Enough with the OS, let’s move on to its battery and here’s where the ColorOS holds its ground. It carries a 3410mAh battery which might sound smaller but doesn’t let you down. It may have something to do with the OS optimization that leads to an impressive battery performance. This device takes anywhere from 2.5hours to almost 3hours to charge fully from 0% battery. The battery is another asset of Realme 1 which will last you for a full day of usage.

On the camera front, we just have a single camera setup at the back. It might sound a little bit wacky but trust me the AI capabilities almost make up for the non-existence of a secondary camera. It clicks tab bit better portraits compared to devices like Honor 9 Lite thanks to the AI edge-detection. Actually, we can take the Pixel2 as an example for the Single camera being better than a dual camera setup. It is equipped with a 13MP rear camera alongside an LED flash and an 8MP camera at the front. The selfie camera can also click portrait selfies, again thanks to the AI algorithm the chipset comes with.

Regarding the performance, we have the much anticipated MediaTek Helio P60 at the core. It is made using 12nm manufacturing process just like the premium chipsets we see in the market. It also is a chipset that comes with AI compatibility. This CPU is coupled Malo-G72 MP3 graphics processor which is above average at best. Although gaming is better on the Redmi Note 5 Pro which has an Adreno GPU the Helio P60 wins clearly against SD636 when pitted against each other. As a matter of fact, the Helio P60 scored a whopping 138,326 points in AnTuTu compared to 105,369 points of the SD636 chipset.

The Realme 1 sports a 6.0 Inches FullHD+ LCD display with a resolution of 2160×1080 pixels. It features a pixel density of about 402 PPI and has an 18:9 aspect ratio. The color reproduction is quite vibrant, but the disappointment comes at viewing angles. It is a rather reflective display and has no third-party protection on top.

Build quality is also an impressive angle we could experience from this device. There were no major compromises made regarding the build except for replacing the fingerprint sensor with face unlocking. As it achieved through software and machine learning it’s not really the most secure way to go.

Display 6.0 Inch FHD+, 403 PPI Density
Chipset 2.0Ghz MediaTek Helio P60, Mali-G72
Storage 6GB RAM, 128GB Storage
Primary Camera 13MP Camera, 1.12Microns Size
Secondary Camera 8MP Selfie Camera, F/2.2
Operating System Android 8.1 Nougat, ColorOS 5.0
Battery 3410 mAh Li-Ion Battery

Pros

  • Fastest performing device.
  • above average cameras.
  • Gorgeous rear design.
  • Best value for money.
  • 6GB RAM/ 128GB storage.
Cons

  • No dual-camera setup.
  • Battery backup is average.

Honor 9 Lite – Awesome cameras on both sides

After the Success of Honor 6X previous year, Huawei is back in the mid-range market with its new entrant Honor 9 Lite. The brand has also released Honor 7X which wasn’t showered with much love from the audience. It shows Huawei has been listening to their customers and launched a device which would be titled bang for the buck.

Looks wise, there is no competition for the Honor 9 Lite in this budget. It is the most gorgeous and elegant looking phone that’ll give you the feeling you get from flagship devices. It has beautifully constructed glass body with 2.5D curved which adds to its ergonomics and the front/back glass sandwiches the aluminum chassis. It is though very slippery to hold and a definite fingerprint magnet.

Alongside its display, we have a dual-camera setup with earpiece and sensors at the top. The bottom chin doesn’t have anything except the Honor logo. At the rear end, we have a dual-camera setup with an LED flash beside it and a fingerprint scanner right below.

On performance ground, this smartphone isn’t the best we could get. The HiSilicon Kirin 659 may perform really good while handles app usage and daily tasks but struggles a lot at gaming front. You will notice frame drops even at the lowest setting while playing PUBG. This might be because of the graphics processor inside being Mali-T830 MP2 not being as capable compared to the Adreno. It does go very easy on the battery though, which honestly is a good thing considering its battery capacity.

Storage wise, we have two variants and while the base variants hips with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage the high-end variant ships with 4GB of RAM and 64Gb of internal storage. It comes with Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box with the EMUI8.0 skin on top. EMUI does have its perks like RAM optimization and battery efficiency but it is a messy skin to have on your phone. It’s not the aesthetically pleasing user-interface but you’ll have to make do with it anyway. Not the worst skin on this list though.

The camera might seem the best one you could get this list on paper, but the performance speaks otherwise. It does have a really good camera setup at the front and back but it’s not the most impressive. Even though have a physical camera for depth sensing, the Portraits aren’t as sharp or have a good edge-detection when compared to the competition. Keeping the portraits aside, the detail and color reproduction is impressive. On the other hand, the front-facing camera is really good. It is only second to that of Redmi Note 5 pro which has a 20MP one. Portrait selfies are good though.

It features a 5.65 Inches IPS LCD display with a resolution of 2160×1080. It’s a FullHD display with an aspect ratio of 18:9 and pixel density being at 428 PPI. Don’t take the glass for granted as it’s not covered with any protection. If you drop it, you lose it. So, better snap a case to it.

Display 5.65Inch Full-HD+ IPS, 403PPI Density
Chipset HiSilicon Kirin 659, Octa, 2.35Ghz
Storage 3GB RAM, 32GB Storage
Primary Camera 13MP+2MP Dual Camera, LED Flash
Secondary Camera 13MP+2MP front Dual Camera
Operating System Android 8.0 Oreo, EMUI
Battery 3000 mAh Li-Po Battery

  • Dual camera setup at back.
  • Dual cameras at the front.
  • Beautiful glass body.
  • Latest Android 8.0 Oreo.
Cons

  • Camera in low-light struggles.
  • Gaming is not the best with this.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 – A Good Performance

Redmi note 5 is the latest offering from Xiaomi in the Note series alongside the Redmi Note 5 Pro with this one being budget friendly. Xiaomi as we always knew did a great job for those people with a budget at hand. It comes with a 5.99-inches Full high-definition plus displays with 18:9 ratio 2.5D corning gorilla glass protection. The screen resolution is 2160×1080 pixels with pixel density being 403PPI.

This display is curved at corners which adds up to the aesthetics of the device. We’ll be getting Android 7.1.2 Nougat out of the box with MIUI skin on top of it. I am sure we’ll be getting updates regularly, may not be android updates but surely MIUI versions. Build quality on this one seems fantastic with gorilla glass and the premium aluminum chassis holding up the durability.

Getting to the performance, we get the same old but not so shabby Qualcomm Snapdragon625 chip. Which is accompanied by Adreno506 graphics processor digging up your games. This beast is one of the few good phones in this budget with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage. Storage is expandable up to 128Gb via using a micro-SD card. It sports a 12MP primary camera with 5P lens and f/2.2 aperture and also a front-facing 5MP camera with AI beautification. All of these specifications are help up by a 4000mAh battery which is non-removable.

Huawei Honor 6X – Best Camera, performance is great

Huawei is a very famous smartphone manufacturer from China. They manufacture and release splendid phones every year. Some of their phones are dominating the market such as the Honor 8 Pro dominating the flagship range mobiles. Whereas the Honor 6X outperforming the mid-range flagships. I personally own the Huawei Honor 6X and there isn’t a single day that I didn’t appreciate the Dual camera setup.

It comes with a 5.5-Inch full HD display meaning a screen resolution of 1080×1920 pixels. This display is an IPS LCD panel with 2.5D curved glass. It’s a pretty thin phone with 8.2MM thickness and an ergonomic design; feels awesome in hand. Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow is what we get out of the box and you update it Android 7.0 Nougat later on. Both of these Android versions are topped with Huawei’s EMUI skin.

best smartphone under 12000

EMUI is one of the very rare custom skins which improve the usability of a smartphone. There are a hell lot of themes and features in this UI. Also, RAM management and battery optimization are pretty awesome on the EMUI 4.1(Marshmallow) as well as EMUI 5.0(Nougat).

Performance wise, we have Huawei’s home-baked processor HiSilicon Kirin655. Kirin655 is an octa-core processor with 4 high-performance cores and 4 low-performance cores running at 2.1Ghz and 1.7Ghz respectively. This CPU has an edge over the Snapdragon625 chipset. Although we have a good CPU the GPU is Mali-T830MP2 which is why gaming performance is a little low compared to others.

Storage wise, we get 3GB of RAM and 32GB onboard storage which is expandable up to 128GB via SD. Honor 6X supports dual SIM with 4G VoLTE but with a hybrid SIM slot, meaning we can either have two SIMs at a time of 1 SIM and an SD card. There is a 3340 mAh battery which thanks to optimization provides a full day of battery backup. For the camera, we get a beautiful dual camera setup at back with 12MP+2MP sensors and an 8MP front-facing camera. The dual cameras are the highlight of this smartphones and it takes extraordinary images with great depth of field thanks to the monochrome and RGB sensors. On the other hand, the selfie camera is average in performance.

Lenovo Z2 Plus – Best Gaming Phone

Lenovo’s offering for the mid-range segment is the Z2 Plus smartphone. This phone carries the most powerful chipset Snapdragon820 in this price range. Even the big companies are providing SD625 and utmost SD652 which are lesser in performance compared to SD820. Without a doubt, the Lenovo Z2 is the fastest Android smartphone. So, if you are an avid gaming enthusiast then we definitely recommend you this smartphone.

Lenovo Z2 Plus sports a 5-Inch full high-definition LCD display with screen resolution of 1080×1920 pixels. It comes with a 2.5D curved glass display and also the back is made of 2.5D curved glass. It comes with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out of the box which you can later update to Android 7.0 Nougat via OTA update. Both Android versions come with ZUI skin by Lenovo on top. You also get a Matte black case with the device for protection.

best phone under 12000

Coming to the performance, as I said before, this phone is rocking the Snapdragon820 chipset along with Adreno 530 graphics processor. Both these processor combined provide you the best gaming experience in this price range. The SD820 is a quad-core processor with 2 cores clocked at 2.15Ghz and the other 2 cores clocked at 1.6Ghz. Storage wise, we have 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage which is unfortunately unexpandable. This device supports dual SIM with 4G VoLTE making it one of the greater phones mentioned here.

For the camera, there is a 13-megapixel primary camera with LED flash and hybrid focus(PDAF+CAF). This camera might be only one on this list that can record 4K video. It can also record slow-motion video up to 720P at 120 frames per second (FPS). Honestly, this camera on the Z2 Plus does not even come close to Honor 6X’s camera. Nonetheless, there is also an 8- megapixel secondary camera at the front. All of these features are powered by a big 3500 mAh lithium-ion battery.

This beast of a phone runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat and is planned to upgrade to Android 8.0 Oreo in near future. This time there is no VibeUI skin on top which is a good move by Lenovo. The build quality is good and those dual cameras at the back make it look attractive. Right beside them, there is a dual-tone dual LED flash along with a fingerprint sensor below it. There’s also another LED flash at the front alongside selfie camera with capacitive keys at the bottom.

best mobile under 12000

Underneath the hood, we are getting the latest and powerful mid-range chip from MediaTek, which is Helio P25/ MT6757. It is an octa-core processor which runs on at a clock speed of 2.5Ghz. It has been coupled with the Mali-T880 MP2 graphics processor which is an above average GPU. For storage, there is 4GB of RAM and 32GB internal storage expandable up to 128GB via SD card. Lenovo K6 Power – 4GB RAM and Great battery

Lenovo has another offering for the list of smartphones with 4GB RAM. The K6 power is a slightly tweaked version of the Lenovo K6 Note which was considered a good competitor in the budget market. Nevertheless, this device is an all-rounder with features packed like 4GB RAM, Dolby Atmos and a big 4000 mAh battery.

It boasts a 5.0 Inches Full HD display at the front which is considered compact nowadays. The screen resolution on this one is 1080×1920 pixels and the density is 441PPI. This one’s an IPS LCD display with 5-point multi-touch function. Sadly, there is neither a 2.5D curved glass or gorilla glass protection. Otherwise, it is a great display of vibrant colors and bright output. K6 Power runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow which is upgradable.

4gb ram mobile under 12000

Under the hood, we have got the Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 chipset which is an octa-core one running at 1.4GHz clock speed. This CPU is very battery efficient as well as good in performance. Storage wise, we get 4GB of RAM and 32GB onboard storage expandable up to 128GB via an SD card using the Hybrid slot.

For the camera, there is a 13-Megapixel primary camera placed at the back along with an LED flash. It comes with phase detection autofocus(PDAF) and can record videos up to 1080P at 30FPS. Moto G5 Plus – Less on paper, more in personal usage

Motorola smartphones are one of those which might have fewer specifications on paper. But, in real life usage, they won’t disappoint you in any manner. In fact, the stock UI feel you get is just incomparable. The camera won’t disappoint you either. It is as good as the one on the Motorola Moto G4+ which was released previous year and was a big success.

As for the Moto G5, we have a 5.0 Inches full HD LCD display. It comes with a resolution of 1080×1920 pixels and the density is 441 pixels per inch. Good thing is, we have a scratch-resistant glass on top which not a Gorilla glass by the way. A good thing about Motorola devices is we have the latest Android 7.0 Nougat right from start and we get quick upgrades for new android versions.

Under the hood, this device features the Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 octa-core chipset running at a clock speed of 1.4GHz. With Adreno 505 graphics processor, the gaming is quite smooth and lag-free. This CPU is coupled with 3GB of RAM for butter smooth usage and 32GB internal to store your files. This device can take up to 2 SIMs and it supports 4G VoLTE for using HD call quality.

Camera wise, we have 13-Megapixel primary camera the back a big sensor. It has some good features like an aperture of f/2.0, phase detection autofocus(PDAF) and 1.4microns pixel size. This one of the best camera phone under 12000 which takes really good pictures. There is also a 5-Megapixel front-facing camera with an aperture of f/2.0. A lithium-ion 2800mAh battery powers this device.

Yu Yureka Black – 4GB RAM with Gorilla Glass 3

Yu is the sub-brand of Micromax as we all know. YU phones have not at all disappointed us with the release of their budget range devices since long. Although their flagships are a bit crap we need not talk about them in this post. So, the Yureka Black is the latest asset of YU for being on this list of top smartphones. The Yureka Black is the successor of Yu Yureka and Yureka+ with lots of tweaks and a quite beautiful design.

This beast features a 5 Inch full HD display with the protection of Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The resolution of this screen is 1080×1920 with the pixel density being 441 PPI. The side bezels on the Yureka Black are very thin making it look gorgeous. There is a fingerprint scanner at the front that doubles as a button. It runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow OS out of the box. It can carry 2 SIMs and supports 4G VoLTE.

As for performance, we are getting the Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 chipset. This one’s an octa-core processor running at a clock speed of 1.4GHz. It is coupled with the Adreno 505 graphics unit which makes gaming a delight. For storage, there is 4GB of RAM and 32GB of built-in storage which you can expand up to 64GB using the Hybrid slot. It is one of the few 4gb ram mobiles under 12000 in India.

Camera wise, this one sports a good 13-Megapixel shooter at the back with Dual-LED flash below it. It is sad that we do not have at least 1080p video recording at 60 frames per second. Also, we have another 8MP camera with fixed focus at the front again with an LED flash. This phone does not do any great in terms of the camera as I have tested. It comes with a 3000 mAh Lithium-Polymer battery which lasts up to 21hours on 3G talk time.

Display 5.0 Inch Full HD LCD, Corning Gorilla Glass 3
Chipset 1.4GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon430, Octa-core
Storage 4GB RAM, 32GB Storage
Primary Camera 13MP Primary Camera, PDAF, Dual-LED

Lenovo K5 Note – 4GB RAM but no Snapdragon CPU

The Lenovo K5 Note is the third offering from the brand Lenovo. Lenovo is the only brand on this list to bring 3 of its phones to the top. The reason for this is Lenovo is making good quality phones and making them available at cheap prices. K5 Note is also one of the few devices on this list to boast a 4GB RAM but sadly, it does not come with any Qualcomm Snapdragon processor.

It features a full high-definition LTPS IPS LCD display which is sized 5.5 inches. It has got a screen resolution of 1080×1920 along with a pixel density of 401 pixels per inch. This one is a good, bright and vibrant display but lacks screen protection. It runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with the Vibe UI skin from Lenovo on top of it. This one’s also got the Dolby Atmos technology with two speakers at the back.

In a smartphone, performance matters the most and it is where K5 Note slightly disappoints us. It comes with the MediaTek MT6755 Helio P10 octa-core processor running at 1.8GHz(4 Cores) and 1.4GHz(4 Cores) clock speed. It is not that MediaTek chipsets are low in performance but they are not efficient as compared to SD CPUs. Thankfully, for storage, it has 4GB of RAM and 32GB onboard space. This can be expanded up to 256GB via an SD card using the hybrid SIM slot provided.

Camera wise, there is nothing special here, the Lenovo K5 Note sports a 13-Megapixel primary shooter with dual tone dual-LED flash with PDAF sensor. There is also an 8-Megapixel selfie camera along with some sensors at the front. The camera is honestly not at all impressive when compared to other beasts in this list like the Honor 6X and the Coolpad Cool1. There is a 3500mAh lithium-polymer battery juicing this device up.

Display 5.5 Inch FHD LTPS IPS, 401PPI
Chipset 1.8GHz MediaTek Helio P10, Octa-core
Storage 4GB RAM, 32GB Storage
Primary Camera 13MP Primary, PDAF, Dual-LED, F/2.2
Secondary Camera 8MP Secondary Camera
Operating System Android 6.0 Marshmallow, Vibe UI
Battery 3500mAh Li-Polymer Battery

  • Comes with 4GB RAM.
Cons

  • Lenovo does not give updates.
  • Comes with Helio P10.

Panasonic Eluga Ray Max – A good phone to buy if you don’t like the other 10

Panasonic is one the oldest and a much-trusted brand in India. It has been making Eluga devices since long but they still did not make the limelight. Although they seem to manufacture good quality smartphones they are less popular because they don’t use any cutting edge technology on their smartphones. Seems like every other Indian smartphone manufacturing brand that’s been struggling to become popular.

The Eluga Ray Max is what the company has to offer in the price range. This is a good quality phone with decent features which is why it made the best phones under 12000 list. It has a nice 5.2 Inch IPS LCD display with screen resolution of 1080×1920 pixels. The pixel density on this one is an impressive 424 pixels per inch and it’s protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass 3. It runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow from the first boot with a few tweaks from Panasonic.

Under the hood, we have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 chipset which is an octa-core one and runs at 1.4GHz clock speed. Honestly, this is not a paisa-wasul chipset at the price range of 12K. Adreno 505 is what does the job of graphics processing, no complaints here. For storage, it has 4GB of RAM making it another 4GB RAM mobile along with 64GB of internal storage. Storage is expandable up to 256GB via an SD card.

Camera wise, there is a 16-megapixel primary shooter at the back along with an LED flashlight and branding. The camera is decent, doesn’t come with any fancy features. The fingerprint sensor is placed at the front which is cool in my opinion. Also, we have an 8-Megapixel secondary shooter at the front with some basic filters. All of this is powered by a 3000mAh lithium-ion battery which is a drawback at this price point.

Display 5.2 Inch FHD IPS, 424PPI
Chipset 1.4GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon430, Octa-core
Storage 4GB RAM, 64GB Storage
Primary Camera 16MP Primary, LED Flash
Secondary Camera 8MP Secondary Camera, LED Flash
Operating System Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS
Battery 3000mAh Li-Ion Battery

Pros

  • 5.2Inch FHD with Gorilla Glass3.
  • Fingerprint sensor in front.
  • Front camera with LED.
Cons

  • Average battery performance.
