Huawei Honor 6X Review

Here’s the full in-depth review of the Honor 6X aka The Swag Phone. Well, the highlight of this device is the cool dual camera. Let us see how the claims come out with the camera.

Design, Looks, and Feel

The design and looks of the Honor 6X aren’t any unique, excluding the dual camera at the back. The primary camera is a head-turner. The back panel is made of metal and the top and bottom are made of plastic. Thankfully, the dual camera is covered with scratch-resistant glass rather than plastic. the LED flash is placed to the right side of the camera. The buttons are made of plastic as well. The corners are curved which gives it a great appearance.

Right below the primary camera lies a fingerprint sensor which is pretty impressive. There are a 3.5MM headphone jack and noise cancellation mic at the top. The bottom comes with a speaker grill and a microphone grill alongside a micro-USB. The hybrid sim card tray is located on the left of the smartphone. The front is covered with a 2.5D curved glass. The top-front comes with the selfie camera and some sensor asking with a speaker.

Huawei Honor 6X boasts a 5.5-inch full high-definition display with 1920×1080 pixels screen resolution. The pixel density of this display is 403 pixels per inch. This screen can produce up to 400 nits of brightness which is a plus one.

The display produces natural looking colors that pop out really well. There was no strain on me during while watching long videos and movies. The 71.8% screen-to-body ratio which gives the user immersive media experience. The 2.5D curved glass is a really great asset for this immersive display.

The only features in this phone on which I am more than satisfied are the dual delight at the back. The camera performance of Huawei Honor 6X is just marvelous and greater than any device at this price range. It has got a dual camera setup as primary with a 12-megapixel sensor and a 2-megapixel sensor.

Additional features include phase detection autofocus, LED flash, pro mode, light painting, and slow motion etc. The wide aperture mode in the camera settings is just pure satisfaction. Believe me, I’m not exaggerating I’ll attach some click below. Where you can see them for yourselves.

  • Primary Camera

Thanks to the dual lens the device produces great click with good depth of field. With the given wide-aperture mode you can click really amazing pictures with bokeh effect. Really a great asset and you can show off your camera. Nevermind showing off, the camera stands out on its own. Here are a few sample shots.

  • Front Camera

The front facing camera did not stand out as much as the primary. The front Camera quality is above average, nothing that you can boast about. Needless to say, it does take some pretty good shots. Here are some of my daily life selfies.

The battery performance of Huawei Honor 6X is another delight for the users. The battery backup you will be getting is just awesome. Thanks to the incredible RAM management and battery optimization. It comes with a 3340 mAh non-removable battery. Sadly, it does not come with fast charging and hence takes about 2-2:30 hours to charge fully. The phone does heat while charging but it’s not that hot.

  • A day without gaming

This day, I’ll be testing the battery backup from full charge to 4% without any gaming. Just normal usage and non-gamer stuff basically.

  • A day with moderate gaming

This day, I’ll be testing the battery backup of Honor 6X with moderate gaming. Which basically means normal usage with gaming and stuff.

On paper, The Honor 6X comes with the Huawei’s home-baked HiSilicon Kirin 655 chipset. This chipset is an octa-core processor with 4 low-end cores and 4 high-end cores. The performance of this chipset is good and does well with the battery too. This processor is a high-end processor but being coupled up with the Mali-T830MP2 it does not do too good with some high-end games. Not like you really can notice the difference unless you have played a lot of games on phones with SD650+ like Redmi Note3 and LE2. Nonetheless, it still does better gaming than the over-rated Redmi Note 4.

Software and UI

The 6X comes with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow with the EMUI 4.1 skin on top. The Android version can be updated to Android 7.0 Nougat which will roll out soon. The EMUI 4.1 being a Chinese smartphone UI, does not consist of an app-drawer. It does come with a theme changer where there are lots of good themes available for free.

Unlike other Chinese UIs, the EMUI comes with many features that’ll make your experience better. The battery management just awesome with the power-saving and ultra power-saving modes. With just a 3340 mAh battery we can get 8+ hours of screen on time, all thanks to the battery management. The RAM management is also pretty amusing, does not let the apps suck up a lot in the background.
